What to build?

what can you make?

The best projects are creative and complex! Think about what would be helpful as a display beside your desk. Here are some basic ideas to get you started.

  • A dashboard which hooks into your school's system to automatically display your upcoming tests and assignments.
  • An alternative Slack/Discord client.
  • A tracker for public transport close to your house.
  • A dashboard to control the music you're currently playing.
  • An idle game that adapts to the time of day.
  • A study app rewarding productive behaviour, similar to Forest.

Some things I personally want to see are:

  • A display for messages/drawings people can send to you (via a web frontend, Slack bot, whatever!).
  • One of those GitHub contribution graph-esque habit trackers that you can update daily.

The guides that this website provides will mainly be centred around development for the Kindle. Note that with this YSWS, Kindle scriptlets or Mesquito projects will be held to a higher standard and may require additional work to qualify for a prize. However, if you want to create an alternate project (for example: porting SAS to Kindle) relevant to an e-ink device, I'll also accept those!
